Become a Midlife Coach
Why midlife coaching?
Coaching people in midlife is one of the most rewarding niches there is. At this life stage many are willing to look at themselves and make changes.
Midlife coaching is potentially one of the largest coaching niches. Australia is being strongly influenced by an ageing population and the younger members of the baby boomers fit into this category as does Gen X , a market of around 8 million people in Australia alone.
Researchers say that 50% of the population experiences a midlife crisis. When a study was carried out on 300,000 Americans they found that happiness dips in our forties and starts to rise again in our fifties. These findings are confirmed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics which describe our forties as our glummest years.
We all experience challenges and crises throughout life, the difference in midlife is that our roles change. Children grow up, relationships fail, disappointments rise to the surface, and grief can occur when we realise it’s too late to attain some dreams. The age at which we can experience a midlife crisis is extending as traditional roles change, and can occur from 35 to our 60s.
This time in life is something we can’t control, manage or fix, we just need to go through it, but how we go through it is key. Experts say it takes 2 – 3 years for women and 3-4 years for men, but it doesn’t have to take that long. A failure to look within at this time means that some people never fully emerge from it.
The feeling of unravelling that many experience at this life stage means they are often eager to find a solution and that’s where opportunities for midlife coaches arises.
Midlife can be a time of awakening that leads to the best time in life.
Harvard Business Review says that in midlife we have more freedom than at any other time, and the notion that possibilities slip away as we age is false. They also says, “Dreams must be connected to our potential. Otherwise, they are idle fantasies.” This is why so many people fail to achieve, their dreams aren’t connected to their strengths.
And that’s what our life coach training program is about, assisting people to become aware, develop their strengths and realise their full potential. And as many men in this age group seek coaching just as much as women.

How does midlife coaching differ from other coaching?
When we are younger we are more goal oriented. Our goals are more around finding love, creating a family, home, career and lifestyle as it should be. By midlife we become aware of our own mortality. We question more. Some of us have gotten stuck in a life that doesn’t match who we really are. Many are confused. Some don’t know what’s happening to them. Most people don’t realise they are experiencing a midlife awakening when they are in the middle of it.
Midlife is a time for looking within, exploring who we really are, developing our strengths and sharing our gifts. It’s a time that can lead to the best time in life when we open up and start listening to our hearts.
Our midlife coach course includes our life coach training course with an additional module which enables you to specialise in midlife coaching, you can still coach on a range of other matters as well.
