Some of our graduates now conduct mindfulness and meditation classes in aged care facilities, schools, one is working in a prison, we have trained many yoga teachers in meditation, and a few well-known bloggers who encourage the practice of mindfulness and meditation. Why we need more mindfulness and meditation teachers

Australian statistics show that at least one in three people are affected by stress. Mindfulness reduces stress, promotes calmness and enhances personal happiness. Mindfulness can be simply life changing. Some people scoff at the idea of being mindful, until they try it, when they quickly become converts. So much of most people’s lives nowadays is lived on auto pilot and no-one wants to live that way. Being mindful brings joy back into many people’s lives.

Meditation aids attention, increases feelings of well being, supports calmness, increases intuition, supports goal achievement and feelings of inner peace. It also changes the structure of our brains and our response to stress.

How is the course structured?

While our course primarily focuses on mindfulness and meditation we have included other subjects that are valuable in helping people change their stress response and improve their lives in general, such as living by values, relaxation techniques and developing intuition. We have also included a unit covering meditation for children, something that is growing in popularity.

Our Mindfulness and Meditation teacher course curriculum covers:

  1. Identify the cause and effects of stress
  2. Use mindfulness to change the stress response
  3. Choose values to live by
  4. Identify the benefits to be gained from regular meditation
  5. Identify Different Styles of Meditation and Assess their Benefits
  6. Identify the Benefits of Meditation for Children and Teens
  7. Use Meditation to Heal and Achieve Goals
  8. Identify ways to develop intuition
  9. Identify a range of relaxation techniques
  10. Identify ways to promote a meditation business
  11. Conduct meditation courses

The course is conducted online but you always have a mentor to support you. You can email or call during business hours if you have any questions.

The course is done by watching videos, reading course notes then completing an assignment for each unit, for which you will receive email feedback.

Your written assignments are the only assessment you need to complete for this course, and if you don’t get it right the first time, you can always re-do an assignment.

Because the course is presented by distance training it is important that you have some personal experience with meditation, and preferably that you meditate regularly, because you cannot teach what you do not practice yourself. However, if you just want to do this course to develop your own understanding of mindfulness and meditation you will learn a lot.

The course should take around three months to complete, but you can have up to 12 months to complete.

Upon successful completion of the course graduates are issued with a Mindfulness & Meditation Teacher certificate. This qualifies you to join the International Meditation Teachers Association and obtain insurance.

Is there a market for stress management coaching or meditation classes?

This is one of the most in demand services that is used in every walk of life from aged care to corporations.

Companies such as: National Australia Bank, Victoria Police, Deloittes, Diabetes Australia, St Kilda Football Club, Origin Energy, CEO Institute in Australia support mindfulness and meditation in the workplace as well as large US companies such as Apple, Google, Ford, Twitter, Facebook, Cisco and LinkedIn.

More than 1000 people from Google have been through their Search Inside Yourself training, which is based on meditation. Another 400 or so are on the waiting list and take classes like Neural Self-Hacking and Managing Your Energy. Google also hold bi-monthly “mindful lunches,” conducted in complete silence except for the ringing of prayer bells, which began after the Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh visited in 2011. Google also built a labyrinth for walking meditations.
