life coaching as a career

Will I be able to do the life coaching course if I work full time?

Yes, the vast majority of our life coaching students work full time. Our teleconference courses are held at night and most people say they spend about 8 – 12 hours per week on our life coaching course, some can do it in less.

Your training material consists of a comprehensive manual, Anne’s books, audios and videos. You also have quizzes and exercises you can download to use with clients.

Unlike some subjects which are dry and boring learning about how to improve your life is fun. During the course you will learn about our coaching process, how to coach, practise supervised coaching and be provided with feedback. Now some schools advertise you can learn to coach in a weekend, but being a good coach takes time and practice and you don’t want to rush and be less than you could be. We offer unlimited support during training to help you be the best coach you can be.

How long does it take to complete your course?

Some people have completed our course in four months, but that’s rare. The average time is between 9 – 12 months, some take longer, it depends upon how much time you allocate and your learning style. You have 18 months to complete the course.

My life is not perfect, how can I tell others what to do?

Life coaching is not about handing people solutions, it’s about asking questions that lead people to their own awakening. You don’t have to be perfect, none of us are, but you do need to practice what you preach. The wonderful thing about working as a life coach is that you constantly reinforce positive habits in your own life.

I don’t know if I will be good enough?

Life Coaching is a learned skill. It is not about giving advice. It is not about solving people’s problems for them. It is being able to ask questions that enable people to make a shift, and that takes time and practice.

Our life coaching program includes supervision of coaching and we give you positive feedback and direction as to what you can do during these sessions. If we feel you would benefit from additional supervision we are happy to provide that for another six sessions (no extra charge). After that you find people to practice coach and most people tell us that after coaching 8 – 12 people they feel confident. The key to being successful at anything is to practice, practice, practice.

Is there a market for life coaching?

Absolutely! According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF) life coaching is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and that’s because coaching changes lives. Now that we have Skype and the internet the great thing about being a life coach is that you can work from anywhere in the world, so you do not have to be restricted to your local geographic area.

I have never been in business before.

Most people who train with us haven’t. We conduct a business success course run by Anne Hartley who has started and run several successful small businesses. There is no additional charge for this.

How can I start a business when I need to work full time?

This is a common dilemma that most people face, but it is not an insurmountable one. The people you practice coach are your best source of referrals for future clients, so the more people you coach for free to begin with the better you become as a coach, and the more potential sources for referrals you gain. You may start coaching one or two nights a week, or on weekend. Most of our graduates start out this way, then move to part time work, before becoming full time coaches. Some people don’t like to coach full time and combine coaching with other work such as training.

I want to attend the teleconference course but I am going on holidays for part of the course?

The teleconference course runs for just under 6 months and we know that at some time many students will miss a session. You have videos for each unit along with comprehensive written material, and if you notify us in advance we can record the session for you.
